| July 17 - 18 -- Motorcycle &
Leather Weekend: Bikes and leather with fantasy mixed
in is the theme for this popular weekend. Got a bike? Ride
it to camp and go on the local run (weather
permitting). The Mr. Hillside Leather & Hillside Leather Boy
contests will take place Saturday. Contest entry forms will
be available in the camp's office about three weeks before
the event. There will also be forms at the Rec Hall. |
The
Ravens have made an annual pilgrimage to Hillside on this weekend
since 1993 — it was our first off-Island activity. It has become an important
brotherhood event for us and our friends from the leather
community.
This year (as for the last
couple of years) we have reserved Site 60, both the upper and
lower levels. This is a large site, with a covered cooking
pavilion and immediately adjacent to a restroom and shower
facilities. Tent sites are first-come. If you prefer a more
bucolic atmosphere and privacy, we suggest camping on the upper
level.
As last year, we will be
kicking off the weekend on Friday Night with our infamous
camp-wide open
invitation COCKtail party. We also provide play areas
available all weekend.
All meals are provided,
from a light supper Friday evening through Sunday's breakfast.
While the Ravens do the cooking, we would hope to see help from
our guests.
Cost is $60
PLUS
campground fees. (Visit
Hillside Campground for information). Even if
you are paying by check, we'd appreciate your placing the
reservation through the store.
While Ravens "site 60" reservations are to be made
through us -- we feed reservation information to the
Hillside staff -- Hillside Campground fees are paid directly by
you to the camp on
check-in.
Cost covers meals (Friday
PM - Sunday AM), booze
and beverages (including the open cocktail party), ice, campfire wood,
and group incidentals.
Cut-off date for
reservations is July 4th. Because of cooking
logistics and meal seating, we are limiting attendance to
40.
For more information,
please contact our Run Captain, Chaz Breyer, at
DteGuy516@yahoo.com; 516-887-4538. Chaz is on business travel
through June 20 (he is answering his email), so in the meantime you may contact our President,
Joe Aielo,
belgarion1228@optonline.net, 718-909-0416.

Long Island
Ravens MC Host 100 for 17th Anniversary Celebration
The Long Island Ravens MC hosted over 100 guests for their17th
Anniversary celebration, Friday - Sunday, March 20-22, 2009. The
weekend-long event culminated in the Leather Ball Saturday evening.
Men and woman from gay leather clubs from Maine to southern Virginia
were represented, as well as friends and supporters here on Long
Island.

Guest Clubs

Brothers of the Long Island Ravens
At the Saturday evening event, the club distributed their annual
grants to GLBT organizations on Long Island. This year's grants
were awarded to eleven organizations -- the Bill Borman Scholarship
Fund, FEGS, Gay & Lesbian Switchboard of Long Island, LI Gay and
Lesbian Film Festival, LI Gay Mens' Chorus, LI Pride Parade, LI
Community Fellowship (church and food bank), Pride for Youth,
Thursday's Child, and Way Out Media. This year's fund raising was
the most successful in the club's history. Since its founding in
1992, the Ravens have distributed nearly $50,000 to local
"grass-roots" GLBT organizations.
The club also honored one it's own,
Luke Mahoney, as Raven of the Year. This honor, awarded
yearly by the President, recognizes a Brother for his contributions
to the Club, the Leather Community, and to the wider gay community.
Following the banquet, many folks
attended the "Master/slave Auction" at the Long Island Eagle. The
auction is the kick-off event for this year's fund raising
activities.
